Your Employment Agreement (EA) is the only legal document protecting you abroad. If it isn't in the contract, it doesn't exist. Here is a mandatory checklist for signing overseas job contracts to ensure you aren't being scammed.

10 Things to Check in Your Contract

1. Employer Details: Does it clearly state the full name, address, and contact number of the company in the foreign country?
2. Job Title: Does the job title exactly match what you were interviewed for? (e.g., Make sure it says 'Electrician', not just 'Labor').
3. Basic Salary: Is the salary listed in the local currency (AED, SAR, QAR)? Never accept a contract that leaves this blank.
4. Working Hours: Standard hours should be 8 hours a day, 6 days a week.
5. Overtime Pay: Does it state that hours worked beyond the standard 8 hours will be compensated as overtime?
6. Accommodation: Does the employer provide free housing or a housing allowance?
7. Food Allowance: Is food provided, or is there a specific monetary allowance for meals?
8. Medical Insurance: Your employer is legally required to provide health insurance.
9. Contract Duration: Standard contracts are for 2 years. Beware of open-ended contracts.
10. Return Tickets: Does the contract state you will receive a free air ticket home upon completion of the contract?
