Heavy vehicle drivers (Trailers, Tippers, and Boom Trucks) earn excellent salaries in Qatar. However, many Indian drivers are confused about the licensing process.

Here is the reality: Your Indian Heavy Driving License is only good for getting the interview. Once you reach Qatar, you must start over.

1. The Interview in India When an agency recruits heavy drivers for Qatar, they will usually conduct a basic trade test in India (like reversing a trailer in an "S" shape or an "H" shape).

Important: Even if you pass this test, it is only to prove to the employer that you know how to drive. It does NOT give you a Qatari license.

2. Arrival in Qatar & Eye Test Once you arrive in Qatar on a work visa, your employer will register you at a local driving school (like Karwa or Al Khebra). The first step is a mandatory vision test.

3. The "Direct Test" vs. "Full Course" Because you hold a valid Indian Heavy License, you may be eligible for a **Direct Test** (meaning you don't have to sit through 40 days of classes). However, driving schools have become stricter recently.

The L-Park and Road Test You must pass two tests conducted by a Qatar Traffic Police Officer: 1. **Parking Test (L-Park and Garage):** You must reverse a massive trailer into a tight parking spot using only your mirrors. Hitting a cone is an instant fail. 2. **Road Test:** The officer will sit next to you. They are checking to see if you check your blind spots, obey speed limits, and change lanes smoothly. **Do not drive aggressively like you might on Indian highways.**

The Financial Risk Ask your recruitment agency: *"Who pays for the driving school?"* Some employers pay the fee (approx. 3000 to 4000 QAR), but they will deduct it from your salary if you fail. Always clarify this before signing the contract.
